Euroleague 2016/17
The 17th season of the post-FIBA era Euroleague and the seventh sponsored by Turkish Airlines was concluded in de Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul. After falling short in the Euroleague Final Four multiple times, Fenerbahçe, led by legendary head-coach Željko Obradović and supported by their home-town fans, won the competition for the first time.
A new format was introduced
The new format that was introduced during this season meant that the league had to say farewell to eight competitors leaving them with only a total of 16 basketball teams:

Other than the 11 licensed teams, the three highest-placed teams from the ABA League, Basketball Bundesliga, and the VTB United League were included.

The Eurocup 2015/16 winner, and a wild-card team were finally added to complete a total of 16 teams, respectively:

The Euroleague 2016/17 final four
The semi-finals were played on the 19th of May, 2017 and were concluded as follows:
- Fenerbahçe Istanbul vs. Real Madrid 84-75
- CSKA Moscow vs. Olympiacos Piraeus 78-82
The finals were played between Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Olympiacos, where the Turks dominated the game winning it with almost 20 points difference:
- Fenerbahçe Istanbul vs. Olympiacos Piraeus 80-64
The third/fourth game match between the two losing semi-finalists is usually only a formality where teams lost their motivation after missing the finals, however the Russians showed their real talent humiliating the Spaniards by a 24 points margin:
