We may have three teams safely ensconced in the Final Four but Playoff D is going all the way to Game 5 and the momentum has swung back in the favour of Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar. Lokomotiv came into this game on the back of two straight defeats knowing that a third would see their European campaign ending while Barcelona booked their spot in Berlin.
That didn’t happen and what a game we had as the match went to overtime to set up a winner takes all clash in Russia next week. The away team were in control for most of the game, leading by 5 at half-time and in the 4th quarter, they managed to hold a 7 point lead. There was a 9-0 scoring run for the hosts in the third quarter but this was cancelled in the final quarter with a 0-9 scoring run for the away team.
This was a stunning game between two fired up teams
The two teams couldn’t be separated at the end of regulation time but in over-time, Anthony Randolph stepped up and he was the key difference between the two teams. By the end of the game Randolph grabbed 28 points but 10 of these came in overtime! Victor Claver also got in on the act and he managed to deliver 17 points and 10 rebounds, so that double-double was of great benefit to the Russian side. Malcom Delaney provided 15 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds, Chris Singleton notched 14 points and Matt Janning provided 10 points.
For the hosts, Juan Carlos Navarro offered up 19 points and it was his stunning jump-shot with seconds on the clock that took the game into the additional period. Ante Tomic grabbed 18 points, Stratos Perperoglou provided 13 points and Tomas Satoransky provided 10 points in the loss for the home team.
In the end, the final score of 80-92 sets us up for a stunning fifth and final game in the series next week.
