Time to check a game for the 3rd matchday of the first phase of the Eurocup at “Aleksandar Nikolic Hall”.
Partizan’s only goal is to win the title and the ticket to the next Euroleague. From what we’ve seen so far, the Serbs seem ready to justify the title of this year’s ultimate favourite. After a victory at Hamburg’s home on the opening day of the competition (97-106), Zeljko Obradovic’s team “crashed” Turk Telekom 85-59 in Belgrade. In the Adriatic League, they are at an impressive 6/6, prevailing 68-86 at the home of Borac Cacak. LeDay (PF, 14 points) and Smailagic (Center, 13 points) did an excellent job leading their teammates to the win. Interesting trivia ahead of tonight’s game: Coach Obradovic won a European title in 1994 as Joventut coach! So this game will awaken some emotions to the coach who – among other achievements – has led Panathinaikos to become the most remarkable saga in European Basketball’s modern history.
Badalona has entered the competition impressively. Ante Tomic (Center) and Pau Ribas (Point Guard) are the leaders for the Catalans. They started by dominating Trento in Italy (56-86), and last week they prevailed very quickly over Hamburg Towers (at home). Despite the absences of American forward Brandon Paul and the experienced guard, Bassas, the team of Carles Duran won again for the ACB: they defeated Burgos 82-65 (in Barcelona). Tonight will be challenging since guard Zagars is in doubt and Paul and Bassas have not travelled to Belgrade.
