Clouds are getting “darker” over Athens after the two consecutive losses for Panathinaikos, the Greek basketball pride and six-time Euroleague champions. Dimitris Priftis’s team does not have an excellent start to the season, and both the fans and the management are getting nervous about the team’s future.
The Greens lost the opening game of the Euroleague relatively easily; Hands down in the Principality to the local newcomers Monaco (75-63). While last Sunday, they were defeated by Aris in Thessaloniki for the Greek Basket League (81-71), in a game that Panathinaikos had a 19 points lead at the end of the first half!
Tonight, the Greens will play at OAKA for the first time this season, and they will face Fenerbahce with the support of their fans. A quick reaction to the lousy start might make them more optimistic for the future. It’s encouraging for coach Priftis that all his players are ready for… war. At the same time, the Turks will line up without any absences; after guard Guduric and power forward, Barthel overcame their injuries and will play tonight. Sasa Djordjevic, the former Panathinaikos coach, will look for revenge after leaving the Greens in not so good terms.
