Armani (20-13) lived a proper nightmare last week in Athens. Ettore Messina’s team was ahead of Panathinaikos by 20 points at OAKA but managed to lose the game in overtime (86-83). As a result the Italians will need to beat Efes (22-11) tonight, in order to win the 4th place of the regular season and the subsequent home advantage in the playoffs.
Armani will play today’s crucial game without several important players. Messina cant count on valuable guard Michael Roll (injured), substitute tall Jeremy Evans, while there is also a last-minute problem with experienced key big-man Kyle Hines (8.1 points, 4.3 rebounds). The American forward is suffering from some minor injury. However, Messina is happy to welcome back to the squad key point guard Malcolm Delaney, who was out of action for a month.
Whatever the outcome of today’s game will be, Efes (that counts 11 wins in the last 12 matches) will finish 3rd in the regular season. This means that the Turks will face the fellow turks of Fenerbahce or Real Madrid in the playoffs. With home advantage, though. Efes travelled to Milan without any absences, but coach Ataman is expected to rest his key players ahead of the Euroleague and Turkish League’s demanding schedule.
