We are all ready for the game of the 5th group of the FIBA Champions League. The group’s situation so far: Galatasaray (2-1), Nymburk (2-1), Igokea (1-2) and PAOK (1-2). The first table team will qualify for the last “16” phase, while the 2nd and the 3rd will play in the play-in process for the second ticket.
Nymburk is, for many years now, the strongest team in Czech basketball (12-0 this season). And the country’s permanent champion. It is also a traditional force in the BCL, with appearances in its Final-8. Coach Aleksander Sekulic’s team has built a solid core of players, and with a few careful choices of American stars (e.g. this year’s playmakers Harding and Ross), Nymburk is a tough club to defeat. Czech forward Hruban, who averages 17.7 points, is the undisputed leader!
PAOK has not started the season in the best possible way. They suffered quite a few defeats in Greece (record 1-4), and their European games haven’t been a great success either. The Aris Lykogiannis is currently searching for a center and a playmaker, but the transfer market is slow. PAOK travelled to Czechia without absences. It seems that there are no more excuses for Lykogiannis!
In the first round match in Thessaloniki, Nimburk had prevailed 84-83 with a buzzer-beater by Jerrick Harding!
